Relay Baton Change Zone Rule change: The changeover zone is now 30mtrs long.
Here is the IAAF wording: In the 4 x 100m and the 4 x 200m relays and for the first and second changes in the Medley Relay, each takeover zone shall be 30m long, of which the scratch line is 20m from the start of the zone.
What this means is that the existing line marked on the track to denote the start of the acceleration zone shall now be used as the incoming zone line. From this line the baton can be exchanged anywhere between this and the current mark to denote the end of the exchange zone. Athletes awaiting the baton must wait within the zone.
